ACTIVITIES

WINTER FUN

In our little peace of heaven, just outside the North Maine Woods, life is a little different.  Winters consist of sledding, "arctic" adventures in the woods, carrying wood, and even raking the roof from time to time.  It's a place where there are miles and miles of snow mobile trails and many kids ride to school on there snow machines.  Life here is a little bit slower and a great deal sweeter.

THE WOODS

Just past our home is a gate that leads to a fascinating place, the North Maine Woods.  This area consists of over 3.5-million acres of forest, wild rivers, relics of interest to be found hiding in the midst of the expanse, and adventures of old.  It's not "The Maine" people often think of, which many of us call "Down East" with lobster and coastline, however, it's just as beautiful and serene.  We highly recommend spending some time close to nature and adventuring!

THE GIRLS

One of the first things on our to-do list upon moving to the CWH was to once again raise a flock of chickens.  We wish to be closer to our food, give animals a good life, and know what we're consuming.  We have started with "The Girls", 29 hens along with 2 over-watch roosters.  The chickens have a spacious 10'x14' "palace" for nights and overwintering and get to free range in the other seasons.  Handling the chickens, checking and collecting for eggs, and helping maintain the coop are a favorite task of our two homestead boys, 7 & 11.
